For even more flexibility, "Markup with a Prompt" lets you type custom, natural language instructions to redline clauses on your own terms. These intuitive tools accelerate negotiation, promote alignment with your organization's intent, and ensure compliance—all without relying on a full playbook setup.

AI Commands are particularly useful when your contract language falls outside your standard playbook coverage or when you need fast, one-off drafting assistance.

How to Use AI Commands

To apply an AI Command:

  1. Right-click on the clause you'd like to update and choose ✨ DocJuris AI, then select your desired command.
  2. Or, hover over any clause, click the ✨ icon in the top-right corner of that section, and choose your command.
  3. To apply AI Commands across multiple clauses, use the checkboxes to the left of each clause, then select the action from the bulk action dropdown above the contract.

AI Command Options

✨ Make it Mutual

Reciprocate rights and obligations in one or more clauses quickly and accurately. This option intelligently applies relevant defined terms like "affiliates" and aligns reciprocal responsibilities in the clause.

Use Case: Ideal for ensuring fair and even obligations, especially in indemnity, confidentiality, and liability sections.

✨ Simplify

Reduce complex or overly verbose language to clearer, more concise terms. This command streamlines contract provisions while preserving the legal intent and key obligations within the clause.

Use Case: Great for cutting through dense legalese, making clauses easier to understand for business stakeholders and accelerating review cycles.

✨ Balance the Terms Smart Markups

Create a win-win scenario by balancing rights, obligations, and risks. This command launches Smart Markups, a new enhancement that adds precision and control to your edits.

With Smart Markups, you can:

  • See a side panel of suggested adjustments based on the clause you selected.
  • View negotiation-aligned guidance on which terms can be modified to achieve balance.
  • Expand your selection to include multiple clauses—Smart Markups will automatically update to reflect the broader context.
Use Case: Use when offering concessions without compromising your critical positions, or when you're seeking an equitable solution.

✨ Make Favorable To… Smart Markups

Advocate for your company or client with more control and transparency. When you choose "Make Favorable To…", Smart Markups will guide you through a more tailored approach.

With Smart Markups, you can:

  • Select the party you're favoring (e.g., your company or counterparty).
  • Choose from different levels of favorability—from more to most favorable.
  • Pick specific terms to prioritize, making your revisions more targeted.

If you apply this command across multiple clauses, Smart Markups will adjust to reflect the full context of your selection.

Use Case: Best when you're addressing internal business concerns, negotiating outside standard playbook coverage, or pushing for stronger advocacy in key clauses.

Type natural language instructions and instantly apply targeted redlines across one or multiple clauses—no playbook required. Markup with a Prompt is context-aware, interpreting every instruction within the scope of your contract to ensure your edits reflect the nuance, tone, and intent of your review.

With Markup with a Prompt, you can:

  • Enter plain language instructions to surgically redline clauses on the fly.
  • Apply edits across multiple clauses in bulk instantly—no playbook mapping or setup required.
  • Switch seamlessly between Playbook OS workflows and ad hoc markups with no context switching.

Built on the same foundation as Smart Markups and the broader Playbook OS ecosystem, this feature gives every user immediate drafting value from Day 1. Access it directly from the ✨ icon to the right of any clause.

Use Case: Perfect for ad hoc drafting, early-stage reviews, or any scenario where you need fast, precise redlines without the overhead of building or mapping a full playbook.
For best results, focus on one instruction at a time per clause or across multiple clauses. If you need to apply multiple instructions across several sections, list them as actionable steps—for example: "First, cap the indemnification liability at $1M. Then, reduce the non-compete term from 24 months to 12 months. Finally, remove the exclusivity requirement in the services clause." This gives the AI clear, actionable steps to follow. While the AI can extract sentiment from simple instructions, the more detail you provide, the better your results will be.
